📰 DC Council Voted to Extend Data Verification Deadline to July 1  On Tuesday, March 5, the District of Columbia Council (Council) passed emergency legislation proposing to extend the District’s Benchmarking and Third-Party Data Verification deadlines for reporting 2023 data from April 1, 2024 to July 1, 2024. This emergency legislation was the result of building industry feedback and collaborative discussion between stakeholders, Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE), the BEPS Task Force, and Council to ensure that buildings have enough time to succeed with the new verification requirement. #benchmarking #beps Click think to find out more and what this means for buildings in the district. https://lnkd.in/d7UHKB8m

Considering installing EV chargers at your facility? Don’t make the mistake that many building owners are making. LL97: Major Rule Changes Announced in Late December 2023 - Now a ‘Decarbonization Plan’ can buy a 2-year cushion. Days before Local Law 97 went into effect, on January 1, 2024, the final version of the second major rules package provides information for buildings struggling to comply with 2024-2029 emission limits and seeking to reduce penalties for non-compliance by making “good faith efforts” to cut emissions. This “good faith effort” requires a Decarbonization Plan which must be submitted by May 1, 2025 and gives eligible buildings a two-year compliance cushion, until 2026. These requirements have real teeth and if a building does not follow through on their Decarbonization Plan, owners will not be eligible for a penalty reduction and will face non-compliance fines going back to 2025.
