As someone who is a part of the Flying V family—whether as an artist, audience member, mega-game participant, student, donor, advisor, or fan—I’m writing to let you know about some exciting news as we move towards our second decade. After eight years as our Managing Director, Jon Rubin will be transitioning to the position of Associate Artistic Director. Current Associate Artistic Director Lee Liebeskind will remain with Flying V, returning to the role of Company Member and Artistic Advisor, and we are incredibly grateful for the exceptional work he did as AAD. To fill the void left by Jon’s move, Flying V will be hiring a new Managing Director as our second full time, salaried staff position early next year. Photo by Fight Guy Photography Jon Rubin became the Managing Director of Flying V at the end of Year 1 and his accomplishments in that position can not be overstated: without Jon as our MD, Flying V would not exist today. The Flying V of today, however, is quite different from our earlier years, with expanded programming, reaching broader and more diverse audiences, and artistic aspirations that vastly exceed what can be accomplished by a lone Artistic Director. At the same time, Jon has continued to hone his already considerable skills in both stage combat and theatrical intimacy, making his formal transition to the artistic side of the house a natural and exciting fit. Photo by Theik Smith Photography As Associate Artistic Director, Jon will continue as part of Flying V’s Senior Leadership Team, while functioning as Education Director and Program Manager for our less traditionally theatrical programming (like our professional wrestling and gaming wings) and assisting with season selection. With Jon in this new role, we are looking to dramatically expand our educational programming in 2020, with a heavy, but non-exclusive, focus on training opportunities in stage combat and theatrical intimacy. In dedicating a senior staff position to these programs, we believe we can significantly expand the quantity and quality of our workshop offerings and educational opportunities. Of course, Jon will be leaving behind a substantial portfolio of responsibilities that make Flying V function, and so we are pleased to announce our search for a full time, salaried Managing Director, who will be responsible for administrative systems and management, financial management and growth, operations, and development. The job description can be found here! This will be an open application process and all interested applicants are encouraged to apply. We are extremely excited by all of these changes, and the ways in which they will allow Flying V to continue to grow and thrive. We hope you will join us in congratulating Jon on his new position and helping us to identify and hire our new Managing Director!
