FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Monica Casañas 301-822-4611 mcasanas@mcael.org A COUNTY OF NEIGHBORS ORGANIZATIONS PAINT DOORS TO WELCOME RESIDENTS Rockville, MD – September 3, 2019 - MCAEL, City of Gaithersburg, City of Rockville, Community Reach of Montgomery County, English Now, Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center, Hoppe Art, Identity Inc., Interfaith Works, Nonprofit Montgomery, Office of Councilmember Gabe Albornoz, Takoma Park Mobilization group, Takoma Park Radio, Red Bandana Bakery, Impact Silver Spring, Washington Center for International Education and other community stakeholders are adopting and opening doors for Welcoming Week September 13-22, 2019. Organizations and groups are invited to adopt a door and describe how they work to open doors to their neighbors. With support from Community Forklift doors are being distributed to Montgomery County organizations to show how residents from all backgrounds are being welcomed in their community. The theme of the project is A County of Neighbors and is being coordinated as part of Welcoming Week. Welcoming Week is an initiative to build strong connections across communities and affirm the benefits of welcoming everyone. Welcoming America is leading a movement of inclusive communities becoming more prosperous by making everyone who lives there know they belong. The doors will be on display throughout the county September 13-22, 2019. About MCAEL MCAEL is a community coalition of public, nonprofit, and business partners that support more than 60 adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and literacy service programs, 800 instructors and staff, and over 15,000 adult learners. Together, the Coalition works to strengthen the community by helping adults gain the English literacy skills needed to reach their potential as parents, workers and community members.
