For Immediate Release Imagination Stage PRESENTS The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe This remount of their 2012 Helen Hayes Award-winning production of C.S. Lewis’s treasured novel features modern dance, breathtaking puppetry and original music November 23, 2019 - January 5, 2020 BETHESDA, MD (November 8, 2019). Leap through the wardrobe and into a winter wonderland in this dance-based adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s novel from The Chronicles of Narnia. A remount of Imagination Stage’s Helen Hayes award-winning 2012 production, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe tells the story of four siblings who journey from war-torn England to a magical land frozen in eternal winter, where the powerful lion Aslan leads them on a journey to discover their destiny. Music, modern dance, and breathtaking puppetry tell a story of love, sacrifice, and redemption. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is best for ages 5+ and runs from November 23, 2019 to January 5, 2020 in Imagination Stage’s Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre. ABOUT THE CAST AND CREATIVE TEAM The cast features Helen Hayes Award-winning actor and puppeteer Matthew Aldwin McGee (Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure and The BFG at Imagination Stage), actor and singer Patricia Hurley (Mary Poppins and Triumph of Love at Olney Theatre Center), and nationally-touring actor Ryan Sellers (Five Little Monkeys at Adventure Theatre – National Tour, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Synetic Theatre), along with Lauren Farnell, Solomon Parker III, Ben Ribler, Katy Tabb, Suzy Alden, Lexi Firestone, Jay Frisby, Sarah Laughland, and Randy Snight. Imagination Stage Founding Artistic Director Janet Stanford, winner of the 2017 Harold Oaks Award for Innovation in Theatre for Young Audiences, directs The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In her time at Imagination Stage, Stanford has helped transition the theatre from a community-based arts organization to a nationally-significant regional Theatre for Young Audiences. She is assisted on this production by Claire Derriennic (The Crater Sisters Christmas Special and The Comedy of Venice with Best Medicine Repertory Theatre). David Palmer returns to choreograph this remounted production. Palmer has created many works for ballet, musical theatre, and opera that have been presented internationally throughout Australia, Europe, and North America. Palmer has served as Associate Artistic Director for The Washington Ballet and Artistic Director of The Rochester City Ballet. This is the third occasion that Palmer has collaborated with Imagination Stage including the original production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in 2012 and The Little Mermaid in 2016. The music for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was composed by Matthew Pierce (Alice (in Wonderland) with The Washington Ballet and international tours), and the production is music directed by Deborah Jacobsen (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown at Imagination Stage). The production is set designed by Eric Van Wyk (The BFG at Imagination Stage), lighting designed by Max Doolittle (Davy Copperfield and Anatole: Mouse Magnifique! at Imagination Stage), sound designed by Kenny Neal (The Royale at Olney Theatre Center) and costume designed by Kristen P. Ahern (The Princess and the Pauper – A Bollywood Tale at Imagination Stage).
