Hello Friends, It is our sincere hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy. As the coronavirus has upended our way of life, we wanted to share with you how the Council for Advocacy and Policy Solutions (CAPS) has shifted efforts during the pandemic. To accelerate our ability to drive meaningful, positive change in our community, we have combined forces with The David and Mikel Blair Family Foundation (The Blair Foundation). CAPS primary focus during the crisis is advocating for community needs, while the foundation puts its resources behind impactful initiatives identified by CAPS. For over a decade, The Blair Foundation has been dedicated to purposeful giving and improving the quality of life for individuals around Maryland. From literacy and equity in education, to at-risk youth programs and mental health access, the foundation believes and sees value in individuals, and their impact on the world, when they are given access to opportunity. In addition, CAPS has been staying up-to-date on legislative proposals, and the impact of this pandemic in Maryland-- including our rising unemployment numbers and the impact on small business. As we continue our commitment to common sense legislation, we know leveraging the best of these two organizations will provide solutions to Montgomery County needs. To that end, we are coordinating with community leaders to donate meals in hard-to-reach communities, disseminate information related to necessary county resources, and assist small businesses. We live in the wealthiest state, in one of the most affluent counties and we are reminded that it is times like these that showcase the fabric of a community. Margaret J. Wheatley said, “There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." We continue to be inspired by the people of Montgomery County and we send a heartfelt thank you for your generosity and engagement during this challenging time. Stay safe and healthy, David T.
