We are the Literacy Council of Montgomery County. Our mission is to advance social and economic equity for under-served adults through academic instruction and workforce development. We've closed our office and moved all of our in person tutoring and classroom programs online (Thank you #Zoom & #GoogleHangouts). Our staff has been working remotely for 9 weeks now. We provide academic instruction and workforce development for adult learners, through basic literacy tutoring, ESL, GED/College prep, English conversation classes, and more. Our largest demographic is non-native English speakers. We are working to expand our services to include even more marginalized people throughout the county. We are hosting a free virtual Classroom to Community Conference this Saturday to help educators and community leaders build a more equitable society through education, and hosting Our Annual Community Builder Awards online this Thursday to celebrate the impact of our programs with the help of our students, tutors, and partners. A need we are hoping to address is partnerships. Covid has showed us that we need to expand our network in support of our students, and the community at large.
